Jim Rohn Quote on Remembering That You’re Not A Tree — And Changing What You Don’t Like

“If you don’t like how things are, change it! You’re not a tree.”

    Jim Rohn

    Beyond the Quote (193/365)

When we are born, we are but a seed in the ground. We have a nature and we are all affected by how we are nurtured. It is not a question of whether we are a product of one or the other—we are all a product of both. The nature of a tree, for example, is determined by the seed that it sprouts from. An oak tree seed has one nature and one nature only, to grow into an oak tree. An oak tree cannot grow into a maple tree nor can it grow into a redwood tree. It’s nature is predetermined by the genetic coding that is packaged within the seed from which it sprouts. This is it’s nature. Our nature—our genetic makeup—is determined by our parents. This cannot be changed.

“When you deny emotional pain, everything you do or think as well as your relationships become contaminated with it. You broadcast it, so to speak, as the energy you emanate, and others will pick it up subliminally. If they are unconscious, they may even feel compelled to attack or hurt you in some way, or you may hurt them in an unconscious projection of your pain. You attract and manifest whatever corresponds to your inner state.”

John C. Maxwell Quote on Leadership and How To Best Influence Other People

“Leadership is influence, nothing more, nothing less. How do you gain influence from people? You invest in them. How do you invest in them? It starts with giving them time.”

        John C. Maxwell, Leadership Gold

        Beyond the Quote (162/365)

Investing time into another person is undoubtedly one of the most powerful ways to influence them. For, time is our most precious resource and when somebody shares their most precious resource with you, it is a clear showing that you are precious to them. If you had a very precious diamond, you wouldn’t just share that with anybody would you? You would only share that with someone precious—someone close.

A Heart Warming Quote About Eeyore and The Amazing Efforts of His Friends

“One awesome thing about Eeyore is that even though he is basically clinically depressed, he still gets invited to participate in adventures and shenanigans with all of his friends. What is amazing is that they never expect him to pretend to feel happy, they never leave him behind or ask him to change, they just show him love.”

One of the more common thoughts being passed around in the self-improvement world is the idea that you are who you surround yourself with. If you surround yourself with people who gossip—you’ll become a person who gossips. If you surround yourself with people who workout all of the time—you’ll start to workout all of the time. If you surround yourself with “losers”—you’ll become a “loser.” You get the idea—birds of a feather flock together.

Quote about Ubuntu and How We Are All Connected

              Ubuntu

              Beyond the Quote (103/365)

Once, an anthropologist proposed a game to kids in an African tribe.  He put a basket full of fruit near a tree and told them that whoever got there first would win the entire basket.  When he gave them the signal to run, they all took each other’s hands and ran together.  Once they arrived at the tree, they sat in a circle and enjoyed the fruits together.  When he asked them why they chose to run as a group when they could have raced against each other for the whole basket, one child spoke up and said, “UBUNTU—how can one of us be happy if all the other ones are sad?”

“I decided that if someone wasn’t helping me get to where I needed to be, then that person most likely was getting in my way.  I didn’t make any proclamations or write anybody a Dear John letter, thus liberating myself from their harmful clutches.  I didn’t say a thing to anybody; I just stopped engaging with people who I felt were standing in my way rather than helping me and I began to focus more on myself.” ~ Humble the Poet, Things No One Else Can Teach Us (Page 16)

The Minimalists’ Quote on Changing The People Around You

                  The Minimalists, Everything That Remains

                  Beyond the Quote (34/365)

Sure we might influence or inspire the people around us to change, but we certainly can’t force them to change.  Change is an inside-out job.  It’s something that a person has to want themselves and something they have to manifest from within.  The outside-in approach simply doesn’t work.  You can yell and scream and shout and argue with a person until the veins in your neck pop out—a person won’t change until they decide they’re ready, willing, and capable of change.

Jonas Mekas Quote on Choosing Art and Beauty Against Ugliness and Horrors

“I choose art and beauty, vague as those terms are, against ugliness and horrors in which we live today.  For somebody to look at a flower or listen to music does something to one, has a positive effect, and being surrounded by ugliness and horror does something negative.  So I feel my duty not to betray those poets, scientists, saints, singers, troubadours of the past centuries who did everything that humanity would become more beautiful.”

If it bleeds it leads.  If you haven’t heard this expression before, it’s sort of the unannounced, unofficial but predominantly popular strategy for many media outlets that represents the idea of using fear and despondency to keep viewers tuned in, listening, and coming back to them for more.  It’s popular because it works and because it works it helps media companies sell more advertisements and improve their bottom-line.
