“Our power to override their destructive intensity lies in our ability to love with as much conviction as they show in hate. Hating with conviction, they draw forth more hatred; when we love with greater conviction, we will draw forth more love.”

Marianne Williamson, The Shadow Effect (Page 160)

“When we hold on to our resentments toward ourselves or anyone else, we bind ourselves to the very thing that has caused us pain by a cord stronger than steel. As my dear friend Brent BecVar shares, refusing to forgive those who have hurt us ‘is like being a drowning person whose head is being held under water by someone else. At some point you realize that you have to be the one who fights your way back to the surface.’

Debbie Ford, The Shadow Effect (Page 141)

“[When asked if she held any anger towards Hitler] I wouldn’t hold on to any anger toward Hitler. If I did, he would win the war, because I would still be carrying him around with me wherever I went.”

Edith Eva Eger, Auschwitz survivor, via The Shadow Effect (Page 140)

“If we could read the secret history of those we would like to punish, we would find in each life enough grief and suffering to make us stop wishing anything more on them.”

          Unknown, via Sunbeams (Page 96)

“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to suffering. I sense much fear in you.”

Yoda, Star Wars | Read Matt’s Blog on this quote ➜

“I imagine one of the reasons people cling to their hates so stubbornly is because they sense, once hate is gone, they will be forced to deal with pain.”

Martin Luther King Quote on Light vs. Darkness and Love vs. Hate

Martin Luther King Quote on Light vs. Darkness and Love vs. Hate

“Darkness cannot put out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

                Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

                Beyond the Quote (321/365)

Darkness is not something you battle. It’s not something you fight. It’s not something you can punch, kick, hit, push, shove, or choke. For darkness takes no form. It has no body. It takes no shape. It’s not something that will ever submit. Darkness is an absence—an absence of light. And the only way to combat an absence is with a presence.

A Short Story Told By Nelson Mandela and What It Really Means To Leave Bitterness and Hatred Behind

A Short Story Told By Nelson Mandela and What It Really Means To Leave Bitterness and Hatred Behind

“As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn’t leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I’d still be in prison.”

                  Nelson Mandela

Read the following short story first. It lays the scene for what, “leaving bitterness and hatred behind” really means. The speaker in the story is Nelson Mandela himself and the credit for the story goes to Geoff Pentz via FaceBook. My thoughts to follow.

NF Quote from “Remember This” on Success and How There’s Always Hate At Each Step of the Way

These people gon’ tell you that you will never make it /

Then when you do, they gon’ say they knew you were goin’ places /

That’s just how it works, next thing you know you’ll be overrated /

Hearing people say they miss the “old you,” it’s crazy, ain’t it?

                    NF, Remember This

                    Beyond the Quote (293/365)

It doesn’t matter where you are in life, there will always be noise that’s trying to take you away from where you are. When you’re first starting out, of course you’re not great. Who is? In fact, you probably suck. Like, you’re probably really awful. Especially compared to all of the greats that you’re probably comparing yourself to. So, of course you’re going to have people around you saying you will “never make it.” That you should probably quit and stick to something more “commonplace.” Or that you will never be as good as that person or this person. The noise when you first start out is real and it can stop you in your tracks before you ever even start.

“Opinions from total strangers take me out of my ways/

I try and see who’s there on the other end of the shade/

                      Most times it’s just somebody that’s underage/

That’s probably just alone and afraid/

And lashin’ out so that someone else can feel they pain”

                      Drake, Emotionless

“Hatred is a curse that does not affect the hated. It only poisons the hater. Release a grudge as if it was a poison.”

                        Kevin Kelly, Blog

“Some people do not even want to look at a person when the person is alive, but when the person dies they write eloquent obituaries and make offerings of flowers.  At that point the person has died and cannot really enjoy the fragrance of the flowers anymore.  If we really understood and remembered that life was impermanent, we would do everything we could to make the other person happy right here and right now.  If we spend twenty-four hours being angry at our beloved, it is because we are ignorant of impermanence.” ~ Thich Nhat Hanh, No Death, No Fear

                          The Medicine is the Sickness

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s people who won’t let me in on the freeway.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s having to let people in on the freeway.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s waking up to 50 assholes pretending to be me.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s waking up feeing like an asshole because I yelled at those assholes.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s people who turn the things I say into insipid greeting card messages.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s turning a bunch of ideas into a laundry list.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s that feeling you get when you scratch something new.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s not knowing what’s wrong with someone and all you want to do is make them feel better.

If there’s one thing I hate it’s knowing that my mind naturally gravitates towards the negative and not being able to stop it.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s people who become your friend, to become your friend’s friend.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s being really busy and using that as an excuse to ignore your email.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s having to acknowledge that my feelings are my own, no one else’s. And, my responsibility.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s forgetting that and taking the way I feel out on the world.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s people who criticise things, who can’t take criticism.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s going to the same job day-after-day for the same pay.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s not having a job.

If there’s one thing I hate, it’s not you.

                            It’s me.
