Karma Quotes

“The sinner sins against himself: the wrongdoer wrongs himself, by making himself morally bad.”

    Marcus Aurelius, Meditations (Page 85)

“An evildoer is happy while the evil is not yet ripe, but when it is ripe and ready, he will understand what evil is, and his evil will return to him like dust thrown against the wind. Neither in the sky nor in the earth nor in the depth of mountains, nor anywhere in this world is there a place where one can escape the results of sin.”

Dhammapada, via A Calendar of Wisdom (Page 170)

“What I’ve found to be important is mainly just the realization that everyone has all knowledge and all humanity within themselves. Individual minds are connected to a universal mind. All people need to do is find out how to get it and reach it when they need it. Karma is simple truth: you reap what you sow.”

Willie Nelson, via Sunbeams (Page 143)

Dustin Poirier Quote on Karma Explained

          “Karma’s not a b*tch, she’s a mirror.”

          Dustin Poirier

When what goes around finally comes back around, what arrives can certainly be painful. Life is painful. And many times, what we send out into the world is pain. Pain that comes from personal experience and pain that’s sent by the people we’ve caused pain to. Maybe not intentionally, but because we’re imperfect, suffering creatures who are doing the best we can with what we’ve been given in life. And many times, what we’ve been given is more pain than we’ve learned how to properly manage.

Tulku Thondup Quote on Karma and How We Create Our Own Karma—It Isn’t Fate

“Karma isn’t fate. Nor is it a punishment imposed on us by some external agent. We create our own karma. Karma is the result of the choices that we make every moment of every day.”

            Tulku Thondup

            Beyond the Quote (350/365)

Karma is real. Maybe I can’t describe it in a metaphysical sense, but I can certainly describe it from a common sensical, sense. When somebody texts me asking if I want a coffee while they’re at the café—I can promise you it makes me want to text them when I’m at the café next. When somebody brings in food for me, just because—it makes me think about getting food for them on a random, “just because,” day, too. When somebody does a favor for me, it leaves me feeling grateful and in their debt—which makes me want to return a favor. Karma, undoubtedly, returns.

Quote from Modern Love About Recalibrating the Universe When Anything Bad Happens

Whenever anything bad happens, you should try and recalibrate the universe or whatever you want to call it with its opposite.

              Yasmine, Modern Love

              Beyond the Quote (255/365)

Spoilers ahead. In the final episode of Modern Love, Season 1, we are shown a scene of a young man, Rob, who gets stood up at a café. Disheartened and upset, he goes to leave the café and (appropriately enough) walks out into the rain. He slowly pulls back to shield under the café’s awning as an attractive blond women, Yasmine, runs to shield on the other side.

“If I love myself I will express that love in my interactions with you, and then I am being impeccable with the word, because that action will produce a like reaction. If I love you, then you will love me. If I insult you, you will insult me. If I have gratitude for you , you will have gratitude for me.  If I’m selfish with you, you will be selfish with me.” ~ Don Miguel Ruiz, The Four Agreements
