Faith Quotes

    “Do not believe that in religion you cannot trust your intellect. The force of our intellect must support the foundations of every real faith.”

    William Ellery Channing, via A Calendar of Wisdom (Page 313)

      “If you are a Muslim, go and live as a Christian; if you are a Christian live as a Jew; if you are Catholic, live as an Orthodox—whatever religion you have, hold the same respect for people of different religions. If your speech together does not arouse or excite you to indignation and if you can freely communicate with them, you have achieved peace. It is said that the object of every religion is the same: all people look for love, and all the world is a place of love. Then why should we speak about the difference between the Muslim church and the Christian church?”

      Islamic Wisdom, A Calendar of Wisdom (Page 186)

        “Who is a good man? Only a man who has faith is good. What is faith? This is when your will is in consent with the world’s conscience and the world’s wisdom.”

        Chinese Proverb, A Calendar of Wisdom (Page 25)

          “If I speak with the eloquence of men and of angels, but have no love, I become no more than blaring brass or crashing cymbal. If I have the gift of foretelling the future and hold in my hand not only all human knowledge but the very secrets of God, and if I also have that absolute faith which can move mountains, but have no love, I amount to nothing at all. If I dispose of all that i possess, yes even if I give my own body to be burned, but have no love, I achieve precisely nothing. This love of which I speak is slow to lose patience—it looks for a way of being constructive. It is not possessive; it is neither anxious to impress nor does it cherish inflated ideas of its own importance. Love knows no limit to its endurance, no end to its trust, no fading of its hope; it can outlast anything. It is, in fact, the one thing that still stands when all else has fallen.”

          St. Paul, 1 Corinthians, via Sunbeams (Page 47)

            “The believer is not a seeker.  The believer does not want to seek, that’s why he believes.  The believer wants to avoid seeking, that’s why he believes.  The believer wants to be delivered, saved, he needs a savor.  He is always in search of a messiah – somebody who can eat for him, chew for him, digest for him.  But if I eat, your hunger is not going to be satisfied.  Nobody can save you except yourself.” ~ Osho, The Art of Living and Dying

              “Sure I am that this day we are masters of our fate, that the task which has been set before us is not above our strength; that its pangs and toils are not beyond my endurance.  As long as we have faith in our own cause and an unconquerable will to win, victory will not be denied us.” ~ Winston Churchill

                “The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it’s indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it’s indifference. And the opposite of life is not death, it’s indifference.” ~ Elie Wiesel

                  “Faithless is he that says farewell when the road darkens.” ~ J. R. R. Tolkien

                    “One way to develop faith and confidence is simply to practice using it. If I were to ask you whether you’re confident that you can tie your own shoes, I’m sure you could tell me with perfect confidence that you can.  Why?  Only because you’ve done it thousands of times!  So practice confidence by using it consistently, and you’ll be amazed at the dividends it reaps in every area of your life.” ~ Anthony Robbins, Awaken the Giant Within

                    The Ship

                      I am standing on the seashore.

                      A ship appears

                      and spreads her white sails

                      to the morning breeze

                      and starts for the ocean.

                      She is an object of beauty

                      and I stand watching her

                      till at last she fades away on the horizon,

                      and someone at my side quietly says,

                      “She is gone.”  Gone where?

                      Gone from my vision, that is all;

                      she is just as large as when I saw her last.

                      The diminished size

                      and the total loss of sight

                      is in me, not in her;

                      and just at the moment

                      when someone at my side says,

                      “She is gone,”

                      There are others who are watching

                      her coming and other voices

                      take up a joyful shout,

                      “There she comes!”

                        “Faith is daring to put your dream to the test. It is better to try to do something and fail than to try to do nothing and succeed.” ~ Robert H. Schuller

                          “Have faith in yourself. But have faith in your friends and neighbors, too. I know life is competitive- but it isn’t a jungle. Like begets like. Faith inspires faith. People give back substantially what we give them.“ ~ Bethany College
