Quote on Making Your Wants Want You and How Relaxing Helps Make That Happen

“Don’t chase, don’t beg, don’t stress, don’t be desperate, just relax. When you relax it will come to you. Make your wants, want you.”

Beyond the Quote (291/365)

What happens when you relax? You release. You let go of held tension both in the body and the mind. Or, maybe better said, in the mind and then in the body. For, the body is but a puppet of the mind. And in order for the mind to relax what needs to happen? Well, you have to ease your mind away from the regrets of the past and the anxieties of the future and connect to the now. How else can you be truly relaxed if you’re preoccupied thinking and worrying about the past and future? It is only when you are utterly present that you can be truly relaxed. Isn’t it so?

If you think about many of the strategies people use to try and relax, you’ll notice that an underlying goal is to try and distract or trick the mind into the present. This is one reason why massage, acupuncture, spa treatments, etc., are so popular—they use the sensations of the activity to keep the person’s mind connected to the present moment. And when that happens—when they can finally get out of their own damn heads—the natural response is to relax into what’s happening in the moment.

So, how then would relaxing help get what you want to come to you? Think about the state you enter when you are relaxed. You are present. You are feeling good. You are feeling warm. When you are relaxed there is no desire to chase, or beg, or stress, or to be desperatefor what? Being relaxed is already the ideal state. In fact, it is when you are relaxed and present that love starts to freely flow. And when you are loving, there is a sweetness behind all of your actions. And when you are acting in such a way with all of those around you, you start to become an energy that attracts rather than repels.

Why We ♥ It: Some of the best advice I (Matt here) ever got was: don’t take life advice from people who aren’t living a life you want to live and don’t take criticism from people you wouldn’t go to for advice. I created this poster to act as a reminder to listen more closely to our role models and less closely to our critics, trolls, and tamed-comfort-zone-hugger acquaintances. It’s also a perfect gift for the outdoor adventurer, travel enthusiast, or solo explorer (or soon to be). Available in print or digital download. 👇🏼

Nobody wants to be around the possessive, chasing, begging person who stresses all of the time. It is the opposite that we are attracted to. And so by relaxing, what you are really doing is dramatically shifting your presence and how people perceive you. Think about what happens instinctually when you start chasing a dog, or a young child—they start running away! It is a game and the goal isn’t to get caught.

But, what happens when you stop chasing them—when you relax? They usually come to you. “Can we play a game?” “Let’s do something!” “Look at this cool toy I have!” And so it is with whatever it is you are chasing after so feverishly in your life. If someone is running away from you, let them. Some might say, “But what if they get away?” “Shouldn’t I fight for them?” To which I’d reply, only as much as they’re fighting for you.

Relax. This is what it means when it is said, make your wants, want you. Learn how to enter your highest state of being—your most present state of being—and the rest will take care of itself. You will start to become one who attracts rather than repels. You will become one who radiates with love rather than possessiveness and desperation.

And, because you will be in such a pleasant and joyful state, you will naturally want to do things for your own continued improvement. You will enjoy spending time unto yourself. How could you not? Reading, writing, exercising, meditating, skill building, etc., all becomes joys because they all beget more of the same higher state of mind. And so it will go. You will go becoming more attractive, valuable, and desirable. And so will you continue attracting more of the same.
