The MoveMe Quotes Story

Matt Hogan - Founder MoveMe Quotes

The MoveMe Quotes story started when I was a senior in College in 2010.  There was this new social media platform that was getting a lot of hype called, Twitter.  We all know what Twitter is now, but back then, when I looked into it and discovered I could only post ‘tweets’ that were 140 characters or less – I was intrigued.

I started ‘tweeting’, reading other ‘tweets’, and brainstorming what I could say in such a short amount of text that would have any kind of meaning to my followers.  It turned out to be quite the challenge for me because I’m the type that likes to elaborate.  That’s when I started to gain a strong appreciation for the power of words.

When you’re confined to only 140 characters, you start to get a lot more creative in your approach of how you say what you want to say.

And where might one find solid ideas for concise and powerful tweets…? Quotes.

They were perfect.  The very essence of a quote is insight and wisdom derived from other people’s life experiences and packaged through their own lens in the most direct and to-the-point method possible.  These ideas get you thinking, make you nod your head, and help you to express your own opinions and feelings (I know they have certainly helped me express mine).

I became a quote fanatic.  But while I was actively seeking and ‘tweeting’ my favorite quotes from all over the web, I quickly became unimpressed with many of the quote websites that were out there.

They were either quote databases that carried every single quote ever said by every person that ever said something (overload), advertisement websites with a few quotes hidden around the ads (be careful where you click), or out-of-date and non-aesthetically pleasing sites that made it hard to appreciate each individual idea for it’s true power (presentation is important).  So, all of the elements were coming together and the ideas were starting to brew…

But ideas don’t make change in the world – It’s the action that a person takes as a result of those ideas.

And that was the last missing element that brought MoveMe Quotes to life – action.  I found something I was passionate about, saw an opportunity to fill a gap, and had the support system and drive to make moves.  The rest is history and has lead to what movemequotes.com is today.  Below, you will find our Official Top 10 Reasons (and Quotes) on why MoveMe Quotes was Founded.  Check it out and introduce yourself at the end :)

1)  To Preserve and Spread the Wisdom.

To Preserve and Spread the Wisdom.

“The wisdom of the wise and the experience of the ages is preserved into perpetuity by a nation’s proverbs, fables, folk sayings and quotations.”  ~ William Feather

Every quote that gets uploaded to MoveMe Quotes gets individually indexed and organized so that it can be retrieved and read by those who need it most.  And yes, there are a ton of different websites that offer quote collections with similar functionalities and serve to preserve and spread the wisdom just like us – but far too often, I see websites focus on the quantity of quotes (quote databases with tens of thousands of quotes) and not on the quality of quotes for any given subject.

Now, quality of quotes can be considered subjective and changes from person to person.  But I believe that certain quotes contain more depth and insight than others.  And it has become my mission, through the platform of MoveMe Quotes, to preserve and share as many of those quotes as possible.

2)  So That You May Keep Moving Forward – Regardless of What Circumstances Occur.

So That You May Keep Moving Forward - Regardless of What Circumstances Occur.

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life.  Attitude to me is more important than facts.  It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do.  It is more important than appearance, giftedness, or skill.  It will make or break a company… a church… a home.  The remarkable thing is, we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day.  We cannot change our past… We cannot change the fact that people will act a certain way.  We cannot change the inevitable.  The only thing we can do is plan on the one thing we have, and that is our attitude…  I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.  And so it is with you… We are in charge of our attitudes.” ~ Charles R. Swindoll

I see people all of the time become victims of their circumstances and life challenges.  When life gets tough or depressing, they adopt a negative perspective and think to themselves about how unfair life is: how they should have been born into better circumstances with more money; or how they should have been given better opportunities; or how things should have happened differently.

Well, the truth of the matter is that life is going to happen – sometimes for the better and sometimes for the worse.  The one true thing that you will always have 100% control over is your response to these events.  When you adopt a positive attitude and always look for the good in any given circumstance – how could you not move forward…?  Motivating you to Keep Moving Forward – the ONLY direction! – is our way of reminding our readers that something can always be learned from any given circumstance.

3)  To Give the Priority Back to the Quote.

To Give the Priority Back to the Quote.

“The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.”  ~ Hans Hofmann

What’s unnecessary on a quote website?  Having advertisements placed 360 degrees around the quotes listed.  I was absolutely astounded at how many advertisements and videos and distractions were placed on certain websites.  It was literally impossible to focus on the text that was right in front of me.  MoveMe Quotes is focused on having a clean delivery and we want to always keep the quote at the top of our priority list—not ads.

If I came to your website for quotes and I have to double check where I move my mouse because I’m scared I might accidentally click on something I don’t want to… The websites priorities are off.  There were sites that I would visit that had more ads than quotes…!  No thank you.

4)  To Encourage Action.  Daily.

“Are you better off than you were one year ago, one month ago, or one week ago? If not, things will not improve by themselves.” ~ Timothy Ferriss

“Are you better off than you were one year ago, one month ago, or one week ago? If not, things will not improve by themselves.” ~ Timothy Ferriss

We are all a result of our daily habits – our daily actions.  What we eat on a regular basis, how we move on a regular basis, how we treat others on a regular basis, are all controllable actions that on a day-to-day basis don’t seem like a very big deal, but in the long run contribute to what ultimately becomes our character – they’re the small components that make up you.

The more positive changes you can add to your daily routines and the more inspired action you’re willing to take, the better your life is going to be.  Sometimes we forget this fact and overlook the power of small actions and how they contribute to the bigger picture.  That’s where the daily wisdom from sites like MoveMe Quotes come into play.  We work to remind you that today matters because it is another opportunity for you to take control of your future and change who you might become.

5)  So That You May See Further.

“If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” ~ Isaac Newton

“If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.” ~ Isaac Newton

There is an infinite amount of wisdom, knowledge, insight, and life experiences out there just waiting to be discovered.  Every person you have ever meet has been exposed to different life experiences that have been interpreted through different lenses and from different backgrounds and environments.  This means that everybody you ever meet has the potential to teach you something that you didn’t already know before.

The opportunity for endless growth and possibilities makes my brain tickle and makes me want to read, upload, and interpret quotes all night long.  There is SO much that has yet to be learned… How could you ever feel like your education is over?  …More quotes please.

6)  To Keep You Motivated.  Because We Know That It Doesn’t Last.

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.” ~ Zig Ziglar

“People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.” ~ Zig Ziglar

Sometimes you’re going to be able to juggle all the tasks you’re responsible for and sometimes you won’t. Sometimes you’ll be able to handle all the stress and sometimes you won’t. Sometimes you’ll be in a good mood and sometimes you won’t. It’s all part of the rhythm of life.  Motivation levels are always changing.  We want to make sure that you always have a place where you can get your motivational ‘fix’ right when you need it.

The key to ‘fixing’ your motivational crave is to find the right quote category and find a quote that resonates with you.  One that makes you say, ‘oOoOo’ or makes you nod your head.  THAT is the quote you should focus on to carry you throughout your day.  Because the only quotes you’ll find on MoveMe Quotes are the ones that’ll motivate you to keep moving forward.  No depressing or sad quotes here.

7)  To Keep You Thinking and Looking Young ;)

“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.” ~ Henry Ford

“Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young.” ~ Henry Ford

In this case, the old saying, “If you don’t use it – you lose it” couldn’t be more true.  You have to continually use your mind if you are to keep it sharp.  One of the ways that a site like movemequotes.com can serve to keep your mind young is by giving you a library of resources to read and think about every day.

And for a more actionable step, try reading a quote every day and then taking some time to reflect on it and think about how it relates to your life.  Give it a try.  Your mind might just feel a little younger after. ;)

8)  To Give Back.  Something We Could All Do More Of.

“Giving is the highest expression of potency. In the very act of giving, I experience my strength, my wealth, my power. This experience of heightened vitality and potency fills me with joy. I experience myself as overflowing, spending, alive, hence as joyous. Giving is more joyous than receiving, not because it is a deprivation, but because in the act of giving lies the expression of my aliveness.” ~ Erich Fromm

I experience myself as overflowing, spending, alive, hence as joyous. Giving is more joyous than receiving, not because it is a deprivation, but because in the act of giving lies the expression of my aliveness.” ~ Erich Fromm

Giving feels good.  One of my daily habits is posting to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and Pinterest the new quotes that I find that are worth sharing.  Watching people ‘Like’, RT, Re-Blog, Share, and Comment on these tid-bits of wisdom that I find is a great feeling.  It shows me that the wisdom I gave out influenced at least one of our followers in a positive way.  And when they pass it on, it gets even better because it stimulates a positive chain reaction of thinking and sharing – if the thinking is but for just a few seconds.

This is not us subtly asking you to share, RT, or Re-blog all of our posts, but rather an invitation to start giving out wisdom of your own.  Everybody has unique ideas and wisdom of their own on a vast number of topics and sharing that wisdom is a great way to not only give back, but further develop those ideas and become more understanding of them yourself.

9)  So That You May Lead Good Days and Ultimately, A Good Life.

just as a well spent day brings happy sleep, so too does a life well spent brings happy death (Leonardo Da Vinci).

“The key to a good life is this: If you’re not going to talk about something during the last hour of your life, then don’t make it a top priority during your lifetime.” ~ Richard Carlson, Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff

Life can be complicated.  Life can be confusing.  Every day we are faced with an infinite number of possibilities that can alter our life path.  It can be overwhelming at times.

Sometimes it can be hard to lead a good life, to stay calm in irritating situations, to give back when everybody else seems to be taking from you, to exercise daily when you feel like just making up excuses, to effectively lead a group of people that all seem to be against you, to get all your work done for a person that you don’t want to work for, to take risks when things seem too risky, to produce art that might get criticized, to follow the unbeaten path when the other path looks so much easier to walk… But that’s just what we are here to do.  To inspire you to rise up and accept the challenge because of what it will do for you in the long run.  Because just as a well spent day brings happy sleep, so too does a life well spent brings happy death (paraphrased from a quote by Leonardo Da Vinci).
